In weeks six and seven, we will tackle one of the thorniest questions of the Anthropocene: what is natural and what is not? What does “nature” even mean on a planet where everything is touched by human hands and entangled in human history? We will discuss species extinction and conservation, rewilding and restoration – is there a way back? We will also contemplate questions of beauty and value in anthropogenic landscapes. How can we understand and evaluate large-scale environmental change? Students will continue discussing literature and concepts while working on an individual “Anthropocene Artifacts” exhibit.
